"Messy Martian Woman" shocks viewers

A woman living in a complete mess of a home astonished viewers of tvN's show “Martian Virus” on July 19.

The floor of her single-room apartment is strewn with plastic bags and empty bottles, mingling with the bugs terrorizing the blankets. Leftover food inhabit her yellowing toilet bowl, while chicken bones and moldy bowls of soup lie ignored amid the mess.

Despite this, fashion designer Lee Kyoung-eun, 23, squats serenely in the mess, treating herself to noodles that will soon join the ankle-high mountain of rubbish.

Lee has been living alone for two years. “It is uncomfortable, but work is too hard so I don't even have time to clean up the place,” she says indifferently, even cheerfully, earning herself the infamous nickname of “Messy Martian Woman.”

Her lifestyle choice also comes at a hefty price. Lee states that she has to keep the air conditioner on to keep the smell at bay, and the light on even at night in fear of the variety of bugs.

The episode has sparked the Internet. “That's ridiculous. I wonder how her health is with all the bacteria and insects,” said one netizen. “At least she won't have to worry about burglars,” declared another.

The sight of the apartment was so disgusting that the crew of “Martian Virus” reportedly vomited while filming.
