Korean man tries to kill his wife

A man has been arrested for pushing his wife off a 100-meter-high rocky cliff in Gangwon Province after stabbing her last Friday. He was seized on July 21 at a construction site.

Police said Monday that the 44-year-old woman surnamed Goh was stabbed four times in the abdomen before being dumped off the cliff at 6:30 p.m. on a road on the Misiryeong Pass.

A 29-year-old driver reported it to the police after spotting her lying unconscious when driving his car toward the top of the old pass.

Goh was caught on a 20 meter high rock after being pushed from the cliff and managed to climb up despite her serious wounds, according to the police.

Goh is living in Suwon, south of Seoul, working at her job, while her husband has lodged at an inn working at a construction site of the Korea Highway Corp. in Yangyang.

“Goh had spent her leave with her husband at a pension in Goseong, after joining him on July 17,” a police officer said. “However, the couple quarreled at a vacant lot in Toseong-myeon, Goseong-gun, on July 19.” During the quarrel, she told her husband that she would return to her home. In a rage, he wielded a knife, saying, “You are dating another man,” according to Goseong Police Station.
The husband drove his unconscious wife in his car for about 30 minutes near the summit of the old pass on the northern part of Mt. Seorak and pushed her off the cliff.

In the morning of the next day when she recovered consciousness a little, she climbed about 200 meters up the milder flank and was spotted by the driver of a car. When she was found, she was unconscious.

It is reported that she only received sutures for her wounds as she did not suffer damage to internal organs.

“It’s a miracle that a women climbed the cliff with her abdomen stabbed four times,” the police officer said. “She could prevent blooding as she was lying, crouched, although she would, otherwise, die from excessive blood loss.”

“I can’t remember what happened although I climbed upward to survive,” she said.
