Survey Shows Married Koreans' Libidos quickly die

How frequently do married Korean couples kiss, and how often do they have sex? Duo Life Consulting, a marriage counseling center operated by matchmaking firm Duo, said on Sunday that a survey of 456 married men and women showed that couples who have been married for less than five years had sex 5.5 times a month on average.

The longer couples have been married, the fewer times they consummate their conjugal vows, according to the survey. Couples who have been together between five to 10 years had sex 4.2 times a month, while those who have been married for 10 to 20 years only did so 2.9 times a month, the researchers found.

However those who wed more than 20 years earlier said they had sex 3.9 times a month, suggesting a second wind of romance in longer-term marriages.

The number of times a day that couples kiss also dropped in relation to the length of their marriages. Partners who had been hitched less than five years kissed 4.8 times a day on average, compared to two times for those married between five and 10 years, and 1.1 times for those in marriages lasting 10 years or more.

"Physical contact is a form of nonverbal communication and it has a larger and more immediate impact on a couple's relationship than speaking or writing," said Lee Mi-kyoung, head of the consulting center. "It is important to increase and diversify physical contact in order to improve marital relations."
